Ierapetra beaches have been awarded for the year 2002 with 10 Blue Flag awards, meaning that the beaches compy with the strict criteria of this Program, with regard to the cleanness, their organisation and the protection of the environment.

Hrisi beach, in particular, was voted this year as the 6th best and cleanest greek beach, in an electronic poll conducted by the Municipal Enterprise for Briefing, Projecting and Qualitative Control of the Municipality of Athens.
