Leaving the town of Gazi and turning to the left the road will lead you to the traditional village of Krousonas which is 14 km away. Krousonas is one of the largest Cretan villages and situated on the eastern slopes of Psiloritis Mountain range. The main occupation of its inhabitants is the stockbreeding. The village was first built in the 10th century A.D. Remains of fortifications, castles as well as other buildings from that period are still visible. Near the village, at the altitude of 700 meters, is the Convent of Saint Irene.
From the traditional village of Arolithos, the road leads across the small fertile plain of Tylisos. Tylisos is built on the ruins of the Minoan city and has kept its name over the centuries. The city was a thriving and important settlement in Minoan times as it is testified by significant archeological finds, such as coins, inscriptions, figurines etc.
Archaeologists have unearthed three Minoan houses which date back to the 15th and 14th centuries B.C.
