If you were a producer, looking for a site on Sifnos to use as the backdrop for your new television serial, then you would select Castro. Without doubt, it is the loveliest side of the island and if you arrived during sunset, you would fall in love. With a little fantasy, relive thousands of years of history in a scene that remains to this day, idyllic. The medieval atmosphere is prevalent in the town. Until 1836 AD, Castro was the capital of the island. Small two and three story homes, with small windows -; ideal for soldiers, blend the aristocratic style with the external ‘fortress'; lines of the craggy hills. Inside this fortress line, exists a secondary line comprised of large manors. Communal space does not exist -; the roads are narrow and the laneways, rare.
