Overview
The capital of Milos is Plaka village. It is built in a hill situated in the entry of the Big Gulf. Under Enetiko, its Castle, are unfolded white houses, small churches and graphic roads. In Plaka you 'll visit the Archeological Museum of Milos, as well as the Metropolis Church and the Temple of Virgin Mary Korfiatissa. Don't hesitate to go up to the Castle to enjoy the amazing sunset.
Precisely under Plaka (in a distance of 2 kilometers) is the coastal village Klima. It's houses are very small and white, built in the rocks, almost above the sea, with multicolored doors which used to lead in places for boats to be parked. In Klima you will visit the - unique in Greece - Catacombs, which were used by the first Christians at the period of persecutions. Really near to the village was discovered in 1820, by chance from a farmer, the eminent Statue of Aphrodite (Venus) of Milos, which is today exposed athe the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The harbour of the island is Adamantas, found in the interior of the bay. The white houses of the village are surrounded by Almyres, trees with intensely lila flowers. From Adamantas you can take a boat to Kleftiko (the so called Meteora of Sea), Sykia (the blue Cave), the Mines, the unreachable beaches, as well as the Kimolos harbour. Adamantas is the centre of modern Milos, a road node fo all the villages of the island.
At the North-Eastern end of Milos, Apollonia (or Pollonia) is built. It's a very beautiful, picturesque and quiet fishers' village.
