Overview

The village Episkopi is located 7 kilometres north of Ierapetra. An architectural interesting Byzantine church exists in Episkopi, the church of Saint George in the Eastern side of the square of the village. The new church of Virgin Mary uses parts of an older Byzantine church, such as the entry and the columns. Behind the church  certain remains from the older church exist. The church of Virgin Mary was a metropolitan temple during the Second Byzantine Period.
