Overview
West of the town of Chania begins the new municipality of Nea Kydonia (Daratso, Stalos and Calatas).
Built on fertile hills and with a virtually unbroken seashore running nearly the whole length of the Bay of Chania the beaches are perfect for swimming and organized watersports.
The old communities in the area have become almost united into one by modern recreational establishments, shops, apartments and hotels.
This area is an ideal base for walking the Samaria Gorge from Omalos, visiting Alikianos with its Byzantine Church of Ai-Kyr-Yiann and Meskla with its springs and church of Christos.
By boat it is possible to visit the island of Thodoros and see the ruins of the fortress and the natural reserve of the Cretan wild goat.
