Stavros is 17km from Chania on the Chania - Kounoupidiana - Horafakia road, near the north tip of the Akrotiri Peninsula.  The circular bay encloses the sandy beach. There is also a small fishing harbour here. The film "Zorba the Greek" used the bare mountainside that dominates one side of the bay.
