Overview
Argostoli is the capital of the island, which was rebuilt after the disasterous earthquake of 1953; it is also the natural port of the small peninsula, Fanari. It is situated to the northwest coast of the island in the ancient region of Krani, which was one of the most powerful kingdoms in Kefalonia. Just above the bay of the area and next to the lagoon stands one of the rarest stone-built bridges in the whole Europe. It was built during the period of the English domination, 1813, with the encouragement of Charles Fillip De Bosset, and that is why it is famous like the bridge of Devoset or Drapanou.
The Archaeological Museum is located in the city, with magnificent samples of Mycenean and post-Mycenean era. Ancient gold coins, swords, beads, stamps, sculptures and ceramics are some of the exibits in the museum Don't forget to see the tools of a Paleolithic man that were found in the island.
