Overview

The Kounopetra area has derived its name from the large rock found here that is accompanied by an unique fame unprecented worldwide.

Through the ages, the rock had a continuous, rhythmical movement which suddenly stopped in 1953 after the earthquake.

It is assumed that at that time its centre of gravity cahnged as the base moved and resettled.
