Overview

About 15 km west of Corfu town.

A traditional Corfiot village near Corfu town, Pelekas is worth a visit for a taste of old Corfu. Old, black-clad women still walk in the streets here, carrying wood and produce bags, and men linger under the sun at coffee shops. There are a couple of coffee shops at the square. Just above it, the Witch Shop ("Magisospito"), where Katerina Tsagkaratou, a local artist, exhibits her witch-handcrafts. The hilltop from where Emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II used to watch sunsets, after he bought the Achilleion and started spending summers in Corfu, is near the village and it is named Kaiser's Throne. The village is also near Glyfada and Kontogialos beaches.
