Overview

Prefecture of Heraklion is the largest one of the four perfectures of Crete . It is situated between the perfectures of Rethymnon and Lasithi. It covers an area of 2,641 square klm kai its population reaches 250,000 citizens.

The capital of the prefecture is the city of Heraklion, the largest city of Crete with the biggest harbour.

The prefecture is divided into seven regions: Pirgiotisis, Kainouriou, Monofatsiou, Vianou, Pediados, Temenous, Maleviziou.
