Overview

Municipality of Paliani is found 15klm on the south-west of Heraklion and is constituted of the former communities of Avgeniki, Veneratou, Kerassia and Sivas. The Municipality borders on the Municipalities of Heraklion, Gorgolainiou, Aghia Varvara and Temenos. According to the inventory of 2001 the population amounts in 2.404 residents.

The Municipality of Paliani is a rural Municipality, without overlooking the fact that a number of residents occupy themselves in the secondary sector. The two basic activities of Paliani';s residents are the agriculture and the livestock-farming and the produced products are grape, grapes, oil, wine, milk and honey.

In the wider area of Paliani there are regions with great natyral beauty, like gorges, caverns, watermills and traditional settlements. There is also o signoficant number of holy temples and churches, some of which have great archaelogical value. Finally, it should be reported that from the Paliani goes through the European path E4.

The Municipality of Paliani presents a unified style regarding its Apartments, mainly because of their geographic place on the central axis of Heraklion -; Moires and their small distance from the capital of the island. Thus, the Municipality is capable not only to retain the existing population, but also to constitute a pole of attraction for new residents to permanently live there.
