Overview

Chalkida with the two harbours in Evripo, was one from the most active cities of ancient Greece. It created colonies from the Thrace to Italy and Sicily. Chalkida was a very rich city and that was the reason that Peloponnesians, Athenians and Macedonians wanted to conquer them. From 1205 - 1470 Chalkida and entire Evia was governed by Venice. In 1470 and for 3 centures devolved to Turks. In 1830 devolved to free Greece.
